The book we are reading this week is Life’s Little Instruction Book : 511 Suggestions, Observations, and Reminders on How to Live a Happy and Rewarding Life, by H. Jackson Brown, Jr. Sometimes you need a departure from the business books, and this has been one of those weeks. We have been focusing on the positive messages and are working to stay optimistic (especially in light of this week’s snow storm!). Have you read this book?
H. Jackson Brown, Jr. originally wrote Life’s Little Instruction Book as a gift for his son who was leaving home to begin his freshman year in college. Brown says, “I read years ago that it was not the responsibility of parents to pave the road for their children but to provide a road map, and I wanted to provide him with what I had learned about living a happy and rewarding life.” Life’s Little Instruction Book is a guidebook that gently points the way to happiness and fulfillment.
We all need the book that just sits on our desk. Sometimes you just need a pick-me-up in the form of positive words to get you through the day, right? These short entries are perfect for everyday reading, and they really remind you to focus on what is important in your life. Some of the suggestions we like most are:
- Compliment three people ever day
- Have a dog
- Watch a sunrise at least once a year
- Remember other people’s birthdays
- Over-tip breakfast waitresses
- Be the first to say “hello”
- Be forgiving of yourself and others
Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could all live by some of these suggestions every single day? Do you have any instructions for life that you live by?
